Psychological Associate (Supervised Practice)
Nicole is a psychodynamically-orientated therapist, who has a passion for helping her clients develop insight and awareness into the patterns that pervade their lives. Her training in object-relations theory led to her developing a deep curiosity for the way in which early attachment relationships shape one’s lives. This motivated her to seek further training in parent-infant/parent-child psychotherapy, as well as other evidence-based frameworks like Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focussed therapy and mindfulness-based approaches – which also have their hand in fortifying attachment relationships. The culmination of these models allows her to draw on and cultivate an individualized treatment approach, which is foremost contained within a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space. Seeking help takes immense courage and vulnerability because allowing oneself to face, grow and heal from past emotional wounds is never an easy feat. It is because of this that Nicole passionately advocates for mental health and feels it a privilege to walk hand-in-hand with her brave clients.
Nicole’s clinical training and professional experiences include psychology positions in outpatient, inpatient, day hospital, private practice and community settings. Prior to joining Toronto Psychology & Wellness Group, she provided individual, group and parental therapy in a 90-bed psychiatric hospital where she ran the DBT adult program. She also ran her own private practice where she treated adults, adolescents, and couples. She spent her community service year at Tara Hospital’s Children’s clinic and inpatient ward; and her internship at Tara Hospital’s personality disorder ward which was primarily administered within a DBT framework, as well as providing psychological support to the community clinics within South Africa’s poorer communities. All of this has afforded her a diverse range of experience across cultures, class and race.
Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending quality time with her beloved family, exploring, eating and appreciating good food and some simple outdoor fun in the sun.
